Tooth loss has many causes, including advanced gum disease, significant tooth decay, facial trauma, and more. When you lose your teeth, several things happen. Your smile suffers, which impacts your confidence. It becomes more difficult to eat and speak. Tooth loss also causes bone loss in the jaw, which can lead to shifting teeth, tooth damage, bruxism, and TMJ disorder. Traditionally, missing teeth have been replaced with bridges or dentures. At Florida Prosthodontics, we provide an alternative with dental implants.

Modern Treatment for Tooth Replacement

Dental implants are a modern-day alternative to bridges, partial dentures, and full dentures. They were first placed successfully in 1965. Since then, they have undergone numerous developments that have vastly improved their strength, reliability, and success.

Dental Implants Consist of Three Components

•  The post. The post is the actual implant itself. It is a small titanium rod that is surgically implanted into your jawbone. The bone fuses with it as you heal, stabilizing it within your jaw. It essentially becomes the replacement root for your new tooth.
•  The abutment. The abutment is the connector that is placed on the exposed end of the implant. It provides stability for the replacement tooth.
•  The crown. The crown is the piece that replaces the visible surface area of your missing tooth. It allows you to bite, chew, and speak normally again. Crowns for dental implants are made from ceramic, which enable them to blend in beautifully with the rest of your smile.

Implants for All Needs

Dental implants are versatile. They can be used to replace a single tooth or many teeth. To meet a variety of needs, there are several different types of dental implants:
•  Single Missing Tooth Replacement: One implant provides support for a single crown, replacing one tooth.
•  Replacing Multiple Teeth: Also called an implant supported bridge, one or more implants support two or more crowns, replacing sections of missing teeth.
•  Full Arch Replacement for Missing All Upper or Lower Teeth: When you are missing an entire arch of teeth, 6 to 8 posts can be used to replace your replacement teeth.
•  The All-on-4® Treatment Concept: If you are missing an entire arch of teeth, but do not have the bone mass to support 6 to 8 posts, All on four may be used. This treatment uses four posts strategically placed to support your teeth.
•  Smile in a Day: Smile in a Day provides you with the same benefits as any other dental implants. Your teeth look, feel, and function just like natural teeth. They are comfortable and easy to care for. They also protect the health and integrity of your jawbone.
•  Trefoil™: This is the next step in replacement technology. This treatment uses three posts and a pre-manufactured framework to support your teeth.

Dental Implant Benefits

There are many benefits associated with dental implants:
•  They restore your ability to bite and chew, improving your digestion and nutrition.
•  Your speech is restored.
•  You regain your beautiful smile and your confidence.
•  Dental implants are more comfortable than traditional treatments.
•  The crowns can be cared for just like your natural teeth.
•  The posts stimulate your jawbone just like the roots of your natural teeth, stopping and preventing bone loss in your jaw. Implants are the only tooth replacement option that can protect the integrity of your jaw.
